The Pocono Mountains in northeastern Pennsylvania is a region of incredible beauty, fascinating history and a virtual playground for vacationers. Encompassing an area of over 2500 square miles, the Poconos hosts 150 lakes and hundreds of miles of hiking trails through lush forest and rolling hills. The accommodations throughout the area include exclusive resorts, bed and breakfasts, campgrounds and many private cabin rentals. The Pocono Mountains are a popular skiing destination being easily accessible from the major east coast cities but it is the summer months that draw the masses for recreation, touring and relaxation.

From May through September there are numerous festivals at Shawnee Mountain beginning with the Celtic festival featuring music, dancing and dining. Independence Day features a dazzling fireworks display, the always fun Octoberfest is in July and there is even a rodeo and chili cook off in September. There are various waterparks that always enthrall the kids and a myriad of excellent restaurants and pubs for the adults. Theaters and concerts provide unlimited entertainment, the living history museum is absolutely fascinating and there is access to pre historical Native American sites.

The word Pocono comes from the Native American phrase for a stream between two mountains referring to the Delaware river. A great many are drawn to the historic river to fish for trout, canoe on the lazy waters, swim or just relax and sunbathe on her beaches.

Whitewater rafting is wild on the Lehigh river, horseback trips are readily available and the forests are bountiful with wildlife. The Pocono Mountains have a large population of black bear, whitetail deer are everywhere and racoons, squirrels, chipmunks and birds are forever entertaining. With its stunning scenery, multitude of activities and diverse attractions, there’s not anything quite like summer in the Poconos.

The Poconos Mountains of Pennsylvania offer visitors and residents amazing opportunities for gambling and entertainment. Two distinct destinations grace the mountain area with unique gaming opportunities. The state also participates in the lottery, with lottery tickets available for purchase at numerous outlets.

Deal a winning hand at the Mount Airy Resort and Casino, the only stand-alone casino in the Poconos Mountains area. More than an average casino, Mount Airy is a vacation destination, catering to the needs of every guest. It currently houses 2,500 slot machines with amazing payout rates, with 500 more machines to be added in the near future. Four dining establishments within the casino cater to every taste and dining preference. The 188-room hotel includes posh, luxurious rooms and 25 suites. Entertainment venues include Gypsies, a nightclub which can seat up to 150 guests, and The Glass Bar, which showcases local and national talent. For golf lovers, a championship, 18-hole golf course is scheduled for opening in 2009. Amenities include a full-service spa, a 6,000 square foot conference center, a lake surrounded by 27 acres of perfectly manicured land, and a wellness and exercise center.

You may also choose to place your bet on a prize-winning horse at Pocono Downs or enjoy casino games at Mohegan Sun. This lively entertainment and gambling destination combines racing, wagering, and gambling into one all-inclusive location. Mohegan Sun was the 1st casino built in Pennsylvania, offering 1,203 exciting slot machines, a fun atmosphere, and 24/7 services and amenities. At Mohegan Sun, it is not necessary to carry around buckets full of coins, as all machines utilize a ticket-in/ticket-out payment system. Both smoking and non-smoking gaming areas are available on two floors. At Pocono Downs, you can enjoy fine dining at Pacer’s Clubhouse Restaurant as you overlook the pristine mountainside scenery and the racetrack below. Casual diners can find common menu items such as pizza, pasta, hamburgers, and desert options as well. Live races thrill guests with every turn, as champion horses battle for 1st prize. Project Sunrise, the latest addition to the casino, adds new atmospheres and gaming opportunities to the racino.

If you go travelling, don’t forget to drop by in Poconos Cherry Valley Vineyard. Here, you will get to see grape plants being cultured into wine for consumption. It can also be an educational excursion for you and your family. Cherry Valley Vineyards is just one of the winemakers in the greater Lehigh Valley area. The various grapes are handpicked and pressed into wine before being stored in huge cellars for vintage wines. The longer the grape juice is kept, the better is the wine quality.

Jesus Turned Water into Wine

Jesus turn water into the best intoxicating wine at a marriage feast in Canna. The wine was of premium quality equivalent to those stored for at least ten years. It was a miracle but everyone enjoyed their wine and had a good time. Drinking wine is good for the health. It has plenty of anti-oxidants and resvaratrol to keep diseases like cancer at bay. Wine has a percentage of alcohol to reduce the build up of low density lipoprotein or cholesterol in your blood vessels and arteries.

Visiting a vineyard

It is very refreshing to pay a visit to the vineyard. Plants and trees are known to emit negative ions that make us rejuvenated and alert. That is why we feel good and refreshed whenever we visit places with plenty of plants like the forests or vineyards. A walk down Cherry Valley Vineyard is good exercise for us. We can take a slow leisurely stroll to breathe in the air and take sight of the greenery around us.

The historic Shawnee Playhouse is nestled within the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, in Shawnee on Delaware, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1904 by C.C. Worthington and was originally called Worthington Hall. The Hall was used as a performance space for The Shawnee Players, mainly local actors and actresses, until World War II. Beginning in 1943, Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians used the Hall to broadcast their famous radio programs. Unfortunately, the Hall fell into disuse shortly after.

The Hall was purchased by the Kirkwood family in 1978. They began to restore the building, helped by neighbors and members of the Shawnee Volunteer Fire Company, and the Hall was placed on the National Registry of Historic Places. The Society of American Travel Writers also awarded it the prestigious Phoenix Award, presented to organizations that have contributed to a quality travel experience through conservation, preservation, beautification or environmental efforts.

After being destroyed by an arson fire in 1985, The Shawnee Playhouse was rebuilt with help from the citizens of Shawnee on Delaware, the Seabees, the Hughes Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, The National Trust, a Community Development Block Grant, and generous donations from many friends.

The Shawnee Playhouse now brings professional talent to the Poconos every year in their “Broadway in the Poconos” series. Cherished musicals, hilarious comedies, and gripping dramas are presented in high-quality productions, offering the thrill and excitement of live theater in an affordable and accessible format. The Shawnee Playhouse presents a free Community Concert series in the fireside lobby of The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort. The Shawnee also houses the S.T.A.R.S. program, The Shawnee Theatrical Arts Resource School. The program helps students ages 4-13 learn about acting and musical theatre through music, creative role-play, improvisation, theatre games and script memorization, culminating in a performance for their friends and family at the end of the six-week session. There is something for everyone at The Shawnee Playhouse!

We provide personal information to our email newsletter distribution vendor for the sole purpose of having that vendor distribute our newsletters. We require this vendor to hold this information in confidence, to ensure the security of this information on its servers, and to use this information for no purpose other than to deliver our newsletters.

Neither we nor our email newsletter distribution vendor sell or rent any fan personal information, or share any fan personal information with anyone other than those directly involved in the distribution of our newsletters and the execution and fulfillment of our ticket and merchandise drawings.

If we are compelled by subpoena, order or other legal process from a court or other governmental body to disclose fan personal information, we may disclose fan personal information as required by such legal process.

We also use third party advertisements on PoconosSkiHouse.com to support our site. Some of these advertisers may use technology such as cookies and web beacons when they advertise on our site, which will also send these advertisers (such as Google through the Google AdSense program) information including your IP address, your ISP , the browser you used to visit our site, and in some cases, whether you have Flash installed. This is generally used for geotargeting purposes (showing Pennsylvania real estate ads to someone in Pennsylvania, for example) or showing certain ads based on specific sites visited (such as showing cooking ads to someone who frequents cooking sites).

You can choose to disable or selectively turn off our cookies or third-party cookies in your browser settings, or by managing preferences in programs such as Norton Internet Security. However, this can affect how you are able to interact with our site as well as other websites. This could include the inability to login to services or programs, such as logging into forums or accounts.
